Our Story

Western North Carolina has been home to our family for many generations. Our ancestors were successful in settling in the mountain region by being trustworthy, loyal, determined, and hard working. Staying true to this it is important that we always operate with that same foundation in mind.

My father (Jim Williams) started this path as a child riding his pony through forests and over ridges in the Shining Rock Wilderness. His life has always involved horses. Whether it was Appaloosa’s, Thoroughbred crosses, gaited Walking horses, or a sale barn bucker that needed to be rode down. Taking pride in breeding and raising his own stock. “Best way to get a great horse is to raise them.” Which was a statement I still hear today, and is an ideology that was engrained in how I view the equine industry.

The idea that was the Bar W Brand came about in 2015. I (Blaine Williams) knew I wanted to represent the life that shaped me and represent my family legacy moving forward. The “W” Representing the Williams Clan. The “Bar” being a straight line through the “W” representing the lineage of those who came before, are here now, and will come after. Then hidden within the brand when seen inverted will resemble the mountains that allow us to call them home.

Creating a Brand to operate under was a plan that would not be realized until 2020. The idea was to become more intentional in what we do. Breeding with purpose to better the equine industry. Focusing on spreading that heritage beyond our front door. Ultimately being able to provide that “Great horse”, to anyone and not just ourselves. Even then the obstacles were abundant, keeping long-term goals in view has been key. We are still developing what we want to be known for and able to provide others. Operating on a small, but legitimate scale has given us the ability to focus on that foundation. Providing quality horses that we would be proud to keep as our own, as well as represent us, and our heritage in your own herd.
